The cottage is an outstanding example of only 200 'mud and stud' cottages which have survived into the 21st century and it has retained many of its original features, including extant thatching, a brick bread oven and a bell-shaped well.
Situated in a patchwork landscape of fields, the cottage lies on the edge of the Lincolnshire Wolds, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and is the perfect place to escape the stresses of modern life.
The cottage is entered through a small hallway on the ground floor which leads to the dining room on the right and the sitting room on the left. The dining room, with original cast iron range has a beamed ceiling and original brick floor and leads to small and well equipped kitchen/pantry. The sitting room, located to the left of the entrance, is comfortably furnished and includes a sofa bed for those unable to climb the stairs. Leading off the sitting room is a bathroom with bath, washbasin and WC. The charming double bedroom on the first floor is reached by a staircase from the dining room and the twin bedded room is reached by a very steep, quirky half twist ladder which leads off the entrance hall.
Set in the heart of rural Lincolnshire, Mill Hill Cottage is ideally located to explore the county of Alfred, Lord Tennyson's birthplace with its historic churches, castles and windmills. Otherwise, just put your feet up and relax in this quintessentially English cottage.
